At the heart of our operations is farming, with a particular focus on the responsible management of lowland peat: some of the UK’s most fertile soils, and some of its most environmentally vulnerable.
Our land reaches the table too. At Browns at the Buttercross, fresh, seasonal produce becomes hearty, honest food that showcases the very best of British cooking.
Tomorrow’s farming, trialled today
Shifting weather, rising energy costs and growing pressure on the land have driven us to develop and trial new approaches to farming, tested in real conditions on our own land.
Earth Rover was co-founded here to bring chemical-free weeding to the field, using precision light in place of herbicides. Reverse Coal offers a new model for land use and food production, turning farm biomass into biochar and renewable energy. Both are proven on our fields first, so they’re ready to make a difference far beyond them.
